Flavonoids are a large class of polyphenolic secondary metabolites with well-established antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and cardioprotective activities. They include flavones, flavonols, flavanones, isoflavones, and chalcones. The AlCl₃ colorimetric method produces a stable yellow complex with flavonoids, measured at 510 nm. Results are expressed as quercetin equivalents (QE).
