Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is a critical antioxidant enzyme that catalyzes the dismutation of the superoxide radical (O₂•⁻) into molecular oxygen and hydrogen peroxide, representing the first line of cellular defense against oxidative stress. The kit uses a WST-1 (or NBT) indicator to measure the inhibition of superoxide-mediated reduction, which is inversely proportional to SOD activity. Results expressed as Units/mg protein or Units/mL.
