The Protein Carbonylation Assay Kit (cat. KB03008-100T) enables sensitive colorimetric or spectrophotometric measurement of protein carbonyl content as a biomarker of protein oxidation and oxidative stress in biological samples.
Protein carbonylation is an irreversible oxidative modification of amino acid side chains (lysine, arginine, proline, threonine) resulting in the formation of carbonyl groups (aldehydes and ketones). It represents one of the most abundant forms of oxidative protein damage and is associated with aging, neurodegenerative diseases, inflammation, and metabolic disorders. The kit uses 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH) to react with carbonyls, forming hydrazone derivatives measured at 370 nm. Results are expressed as nmol carbonyl/mg protein.
