The FRAP Total Antioxidant Capacity Assay Kit (cat. KF01003-200T) is based on the Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) assay, a widely validated method for determining the total antioxidant capacity of food, plant extracts, and biological fluids.
In the FRAP assay, antioxidants reduce the ferric tripyridyltriazine complex (Fe³⁺-TPTZ) to a blue-colored ferrous complex (Fe²⁺-TPTZ) at low pH. The absorbance increase at 593 nm is directly proportional to the antioxidant reducing capacity of the sample. Results are expressed as Trolox equivalents (TE).
